Filling Your Well

What really is rest? Too often we think we are resting by having that glass of wine, watching Netflix all day, or eating an entire pizza by yourself. These activities can totally be restful however we need to be careful that we aren't just escaping. Escapism is not resting because you are still doing something... escaping. That's why it's important to make time to fill your emotional and creative well.

Something that I personally love to do is to make dates with myself. I know that sounds a little sad but what I mean when I say that is going on a date with me and my creativity. To explore the world around me. Gain new ideas. Meet new people. The reason I go with myself is because I can then do whatever I want, whenever I want, however I want. I am not relying on other people making my decisions for me. Everything I then do is something that is going to help fill me up.

If you don't have time then make time. We love to use "I'm too busy" as an excuse for not taking care of ourselves. We need this, though. If you are constantly working then you are always in "fire" mode and burning yourself out. We need some of that water energy to balance it out.

Obviously too much water can put out a fire, too. That is when we get too lethargic and depressed. We have too much emotional (water) energy inside of us that it is putting out our fire. We need to release some of that. How?

By going on a date with your emotional self!!

As a society, we've really been pushing this idea of needed other people to do everything in our lives and that could not be further from the truth. Learn to love yourself. Spend time with yourself. It's the only way to truly listen to your highest self to start dancing to your own tune, rather than the tune of others.
